WE TAKE PRIDE IN WHAT WE DO
Our Story
Nick had a passion for trees from a young age, but this really developed further when he took a position as an apprentice arborist with Wellington City Council in 2008, despite having just completed his university degree in the social sciences. He was fortunate enough to work with a great team, and had the opportunity to work and climb around the trees in Wellington's Botanic Garden's, parks, cemeteries and urban forest.
When he arrived in the Wairarapa, and tired of commuting to Wellington, he set up as a contractor carrying out small jobs for local clients, as well as offering contract climbing services to other local and Wellington based companies. As the client base grew, Treecraft invested in a truck and chipper, took on casual staff, and continued to do what they loved.
As luck would have it, his good friend and previous trainer during the WCC days, Richie Hill (Paper Street Tree Company) moved to Greytown with his family and for the past several years has worked alongside Treecraft as a contract climber, and offered much guidance around his specialty - arboricultural consultancy. Being able to work with mates has been crucial to the culture at Treecraft.
As things have become busier, we've kept in touch old friends who come from Wellington and Palmerston North as subcontracting arborists for big/specialist jobs when we need more hands on deck, or have a big work load on. And we've taken on apprentice Andy, who has grown hugely in terms of skill and confidence, and is now a qualified level 3 arborist, working towards his level 4 advanced certificate in arboriculture. The team is set to grow again in June 2019 with the addition of a senior foreman, again an old workmate from the Wellington days. This will help ease the workload on Nick, who's going back to study towards a graduate diploma in Ecology at Massey University part time.
Today we continue to operate throughout the Wairarapa, servicing clients in the residential sector, local councils, schools, and commercial organisations. We've invested in modern, specialist equipment including our high capacity Brush Bandit 12" chipper, stump grinder, rigging equipment, and fleet of vehicles. We love the work we do, as well as the opportunity to meet people in the community and make new friends. One of the biggest perks of our jobs is getting a chance to sit down for a coffee with clients and talk trees.
We're proud of the work we do and consider our skill set and quality of work at the top of its game. Check us out and get in touch to arrange an appointment.
